After searching for a new u-pick apple orchard, we finally found one to replace our New York tradition. What better place than to travel to the fruit capitol of Washington - Yakima! After looking online for a place to go, we found that due to the late frost of last Spring, many places were lacking in crops and didn't have u-pick. But, we found one Thompson Farm in Naches where we got to sip cider, eat fresh donuts, watch pumpkins and apples fly out of cannons, pick apples, and find the BIG family pumpkin! Oh, and don't forget the chickens we chatted with. (Audrey was longing for poultry conversation, missing her buddies we gave away in PA) We spent 3 days camping. Our kind of camping isn't really "camping"...I don't think RVing with warm beds, and flat screen TV really quite counts.

This is a wobbly suspension bridge we came across on our hike. Who were the biggest scaredycats?...Dad and Sophia! The rest of us did our darndest to rock the bridge when they were passing over! Tim got to scout out some possible hunting grounds and learned from the locals more about Washington's "rules and regulations". All in all...a fun weekend...something we'll keep doing every year!

What a great place to find! How far away was it? I always mean to go pick apples like we did in Connecticut, but have never researched it, so thanks for doing it for me!
Ok we are headed to Yakima this weekend..where is the suspension brigde???also where is the herd of elk in Snoqualmie...I heard of the particular herd but not the exact location..kids love elk...taste good too....
Thompson farm is in Naches. Here is the link http://www.thompsonsfarm.com/. It was about 2 1/2 hours from Fall City. We took the long way around with our camper (E. on 90). Without traffic, it would be shorter to cut down around Enumclaw area by Mt. Rainier and go over the Chinook Pass. We learned about the suspension bridge from a local woman who was working at the fish and wildlife center where they also have elk viewing and feeding areas (in the winter). The bridge is located where State Route 410 meets with Hwy 12 in Naches. It is on hwy 12. The trail starts off the hwy next to an old metal fort. Ok, I realize as I'm telling you this, it wouldn't be very easy to find. Your best bet, just go to the fish and wildlife center and ask for directions.
Wow what a bridge. I'd be so scared that one of us would fall through the ropes. Jon wants to build a bridge just like that one from on almost finished ttreehouse across the other side of the pond or he wants to do a zip rope. So we'll see.
